Do you like to read the books then watch the movies?

I've had some interesting discussions with people, so I thought I'd share my thoughts... I LOVE to read, obviously, which is why I decided to write. Personally, and I'm guessing that most avid readers would agree, I prefer books over movies. However, I'm too tempted to watch the movie as soon as it comes out. I think that each offers something that the other can't. Books allow for more detail and give us the opportunity to really get inside the heads of the characters. Plus I enjoy using my own imagination to help create the visual images. It feels like a very personal experience. On the other hand, movies are so entertaining. I love watching the scenes come to life, enhancing what I've read. I admit I'm always a bit disappointed when some of my favorite scenes, lines, or sometimes characters are omitted from the movie, but sometimes things are added that I love as well. (It's the same with concerts, by the way. Sometimes they don't play my favorite song, but it's still an awesome show.) All and all, I'm learning to just appreciate each experience for what it is and resist the urge to compare. And believe me, if I'm ever offered an opportunity to make a movie from a book I've written, I would say, "HELL, YEAH!" :) What are your thoughts?
